Abstract

The agenda setting serves as an important device embedded into the working process of mass communication industry domestically and globally. This concept refers to the fact that when the messenger communicates or concentrates on any topics, the message inevitably affects perception of the recipients. In the past, this method was used with news concerning big issues and required understanding at the national level. However, as the times have changed, agenda setting is applied to present other types of news, especially entertainment news, in which famous celebrities are magnet in drawing attention from the audience. In addition, the digital era evolves more options for media and communication channel which favor convenient access and arouse quick response and interaction by the audience making the agenda setting emerges a new dimension. The agenda setting in entertainment news about celebrities in the digital age, the changing and interesting issue is the fact that the recipients play the role in determining the news movement together with the mainstream media. This can be observed from many Facebook pages that continuously follows and updates the entertainment news. The methods, processes, and presentation styles are developed in accordance with technology and online channels allowing the entertainment news nowadays easily becomes a social agenda, conveniently reaches the target group and quickly creates public wide perception. These phenomena can be seen from VDO clips sharing, storytelling album, comments showing attitudes and information sharing by the recipients which serve as the key driving force for the mainstream media to further expand broadcasting the news about those celebrities.
