Fair Trade Coffee: Increasing the value via fairness

Abstract

The coffee industry is the consumer driven market, while the conventional international trade systems could not restrain the inherent volatility of the coffee’s price which leads to the long cycle of imbalance profit between producers and consumers. Therefore, the new paradigm of fair international trade system is needed. In this article, the author would like  to focus on explanation of alternative method beside legal mechanism, which is fair trade label, to improve the value of coffee. Although fair trade system could not resolve every coffee problems, fair trade is still being one of the fairness solutions that Thai coffee producers can apply in order to increase the value of their coffee with fairness.
