A TASK-BASED APPROACH LEARNING MANAGEMENT TO ENHANCE ENGLISH SPEAKING ABILITY OF COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION STUDENTS, PHRANAKHON RAJABHAT UNIVERSITY

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) study the efficiency of task-based approach lesson plans to enhance speaking ability of College of Teacher Education students, Phranakhon Rajabhat University, 2) study the efficiency index of the developed lesson plans, 3) develop students’ speaking ability, and 4) study students’ satisfaction towards the task-based learning approach to enhance English speaking ability. The population consisted of 390 first-year students, College of Teacher Education, Phranakhon Rajabhat University. The samples were 27 students, selected by a cluster random sampling method. The statistics used to analyze the collected data were mean, standard deviation, and dependent t-test. The results revealed that: 1) the efficiency of the developed lesson plans was 76.42/76.20 which was higher than the criterion set at 75/75, 2) the efficiency index after learning with the developed lesson plans was 0.5267 reflecting that students developed their speaking ability at 0.5267 or 52.67 % exceeding the criterion set at 0.50, 3) students’ speaking ability after learning with the task-based learning approach to enhance English speaking ability was higher than before the implementation at the statistical significance level of .05, and 4) the students’satisfaction level was overall at the highest (=4.54), when considering each aspect, it showed that the highest was the content aspect (=4.59), the learning management aspect (=4.56), and the benefit aspect (= 4.47) respectively which were relevant to the interview’s result from the study.
