ในการศึกษาเรื่องของผู้นำ (Leader) และภาวะผู้นำ (Leadership) เรามักพบว่าผู้นำที่มีประสิทธิภาพจะมีคุณลักษณะ (Characteristics) ที่คล้ายกัน เช่น ความมั่นใจในตนเอง ความจริงใจต่อผู้อื่น การชอบแสดงออก และเป็นผู้ที่ไว้วางใจได้ในการทำงานให้สำเร็จ เป็นต้น ซึ่งทำให้นักการศึกษาหันมาให้ความสำคัญในการบ่มเพาะเยาวชนรุ่นใหม่ให้มีคุณลักษณะดังกล่าว เพื่อให้เขาได้เป็นผู้นำที่ดีในอนาคต บทความนี้ได้วิเคราะห์คุณลักษณะของผู้นำโดยทั่วไป สไตล์การทำงานของผู้นำที่ประสบความสำเร็จ รวมถึงแนวทางการพัฒนาตนเองให้เป็นคนที่มีประสิทธิภาพสูงเพื่อเตรียมพร้อมที่จะเป็นผู้นำที่ดีในอนาคต
