Pi kaew in Mahori Korat Orchestra

บทคัดย่อ

The research, “Pi Kaew in Mahori Korat Orchestra” aimed to study background and structure of Pi Keaw in Mahori Korat Orchestra; and study role Pi Keaw in the orchestra that impact on local Korat culture. The research method applied in this study was qualitative. By studying data from document, data from interview and actual practicing; and analyzing as research results.

            The results found that Pi Keaw vocal structure has 15 range of vocals that can be classified into 2 groups, which are group 1 vocal range from 1-8 called “middle pitch” means the pitch that not too low or too high and most popular when using for performing melody; group 2 vocal range from 8-15, means high to highest pitch. Pi Keaw has vital role as leader of Mahori orchestra or leader of song in Mahori Korat orchestra. Voice comparing in Mahori orchestra, Pi Keaw has a role in comparing voice for other fiddles voice setting. Nowadays, Pi Keaw also remain it importance for community since Buddhism has activities all year such as Ordination, Kathin, Forest-robe presenting ceremony, and other entertaining ceremony that associate with religion like wedding and house blessing ceremony. The host of these ceremonies mostly require Mahori orchestra to perform during the ceremonies.

            Mahori Korat Orchestra is the local orchestra that mixed between string and blowing Instruments. This type of Mahori is bounded with Korat local people way of life. It is famous for auspicious ceremony or any other ceremonies that most found in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, with roles and duties for rite and local norms. The Mahori settle has uniqueness way of settle which can be categorized into 4 types; 1) Original Mahori, 2) Mixed Mahori, 3) Adapted Mahori, and 4) Hae Nang Maew festival Mahori. Mahori Korat Orchestra has roles to pass on traditional, values, ethics and norms to people in society.
