Renovation of Rehabilitation Centers Serving Individuals with Impairments and the Elderly: A Case Study of Wat Chaeng Rehabilitation Center, Muang Municipality, Prachin Buri Province.

Abstract
This research aimed to: 1) study the current conditions of the rehabilitation center for persons with disabilities and the elderly, 2) analyze those conditions in detail, 3) design a prototype model for the center, and 4) improve the existing facility at Wat Chaeng, located in the municipal area of Prachinburi Province, based on the developed prototype using Augmented Reality (AR) and animation technologies. The key informants included 12 participants—persons with disabilities, elderly individuals, caregivers, occupational therapists, and physical therapists—selected through purposive sampling. In addition, the evaluation of the improved rehabilitation center involved a sample group of 385 individuals selected through simple random sampling.
The research findings revealed that: 1) the rehabilitation center for persons with disabilities and the elderly should include a clearly designated registration and screening area; the bed placement area should be distinctly separated from the dining area; the existing dishwashing area should be repurposed as a storage room; and the service area should be organized with clearly defined zones for equipment placement, emphasizing safety and ease of access. 2) The evaluation of the rehabilitation center at Wat Chaeng, Prachinburi Municipality, after being improved based on the developed prototype using Augmented Reality (AR) and animation technology, showed that the overall assessment by the sample group was at the highest level (mean = 4.783). All eight evaluation criteria were also rated at the highest level, with average scores ranging from 4.719 to 4.865. These criteria included: (1) spatial design and proportion, (2) functional appropriateness, (3) aesthetic value, (4) adaptability as a prototype for implementation in other areas, (5) inclusive usability for the general population, (6) benefits to persons with disabilities and the elderly, (7) uniqueness of the design, and (8) overall satisfaction with the improved rehabilitation center.
