A Study of Basic Information to Develop Doctoral Program in Teaching Thai as a Foreign Language of Thaksin University

Abstract
This research aimed to study basic information to develop doctoral program in teaching Thai as a foreign language of Thaksin university as follows 1) students’ need to study doctoral degree and 2) experts’opinion on doctoral program. The sample were 385 people who want to study doctoral program in teaching Thai as a foreign language. 10 experts to study opinion on doctoral program in teaching Thai as a foreign language and 10 experts for focus group to express opinion on doctoral program in teaching Thai as a foreign language. The research instruments were : 1) questionnaire to study doctoral program in teaching Thai as a foreign language, 2) experts questionnaire on doctoral program in teaching Thai as a foreign language and 3) experts focus group form on doctoral program in teaching Thai as a foreign language. Frequency, percentage and content analysis were used in data analysis The results were found that : 1) People who want to study doctoral degree, 250 people (64.94%) wanted to study after 3 year, 97 people (25.19%) wanted to study by research program, 180 people (46.755%) wanted to study after hours (Saturday – Sunday), 219 people (56.88%) wanted to practice oversea, 225 people (58.44%) interested in research in teaching Thai as a foreign language, 133 people (34.55%) wanted to apply developing their job 2) expert opinion on doctoral program in teaching Thai as a foreign language. were all aspect appropriateness including 2.1) curriculum in teaching Thai as a foreign language. 2.2) instruction in teaching Thai as a foreign language 2.3) educational media in teaching Thai as a foreign language 2.4) measurement and evaluation in teaching Thai as a foreign language 2.5) literature and Thai literature in teaching Thai as a foreign language 2.6) research in teaching Thai as a foreign language 2.7) Thai grammar in teaching Thai as a foreign language and 2.8) linguistic in teaching Thai as a foreign language.
