Abstract

This study examines materials available for Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (TCSL) and for the teaching of Chinese Newspaper Reading from the perspective of intercultural communication. It includes the language of journalism (vocabulary, style, structure) and non-verbal communication (visual images). New teaching material is presented, based on an understanding of the deep cultural mechanisms behind the language, and seeking to show how its verbal and non-verbal parts are integrated. This teaching resource is not only able to meet the needs of current intercultural communication by focusing Chinese news teaching on Chinese culture, but is able to help Thai learners understand more fully the newspapers and online news which are available to them.
