Economic, social, cultural "capital" and school fate: an analysis of survival condition of different types of Chinese Schools at Thailand Chiang Rai mountainous area

Abstract

According to the field work information and the previous studies, the Thailand Chiang Rai mountain Chinese Schools could be obtained from the village, the local Chinese community leaders and school administrators at the economic, cultural and social capital are different, therefore, there had been a clear differentiation in schools. Part of the schools having a long history, based on the advantages of tradition and reality, to get adequate resource protection, the overall level of these schools had been running constantly improved, and they had been leading in the local Chinese education circles. At the same time, some schools with relatively scarce resources were marginalized in space and institution. So these schools had been faced with the danger of developing, even closing down. Therefore, if the researchers want to understand the actual situation of Chinese Schools at mountain areas in northern Thailand in the future, they should go beyond the existing analysis and the simple visual shackles.
