Abstract
The purpose of this research was to analyze playground equipment to promote motor fitness for young children. The sample was 521 pieces of playground equipment in 28 playgrounds in 21 main Bangkok public parks. The research instrument was a checklist form. Data was analyzed by using frequency and percentage through table with details.
The research found that: there were seven types of playground equipment in Bangkok’s main public parks: a slide, a swing, a climber, a balancing equipment, a seesaw, a spring rocker, and a merry-go-rounds. No playground equipment which promoted all seven motor-finesses items was found. A climber was found to mostly promote six motor-fitness items: agility, power, coordination, balance, flexibility, muscular strength/endurance. A seesaw and a spring rocker was found to promote five motor-fitness items: power, coordination, balance, muscular strength and endurance, and speed or flexibility; a slide, a swing, a balancing equipment, and a merry-go-rounds were found to promote four motor-fitness items: coordination, balance, power/muscular strength and endurance, speed/ flexibility.
