RENEWAL: MORALS, BELIEFS, THAT INFLUENCE ON THE LANNA SOCIETY IN CHIANG RAI PROVINCE

This resarch has the following objectives: 1) to study the history of the tradition of renewal in Buddhism script; 2) to study the influence of traditions on Lanna society in Chiang Rai province. and 3) to analyze morals, beliefs, ceremonies, and an influence on Lanna in Chiang Rai Province, is qualitative research together with in-depth interviews.

The research findings are as follows:

1) The history of the renewal tradition that has evidence appears on three beliefs, namely: 1. from the legend of the scriptures Suep sha-ta (Renewal) of Lanna; 2. the story of Dikhayu Kuman and 3. the story of longevity ("yuvaddhanakumara).

2) To influence positive thinking in life (Sammaditthi) influencing life in every era by the ceremonies of renewal infiltrating in the belief system and way of life from ancient times to the present while human was happy and suffered. And

3) all key informants have faith in the power of triple gems and all mantras (Paritta) derived from the Sutra or the Buddha's words, in addition, they believe the mantra that was composed by Mahathera monks of Lanna and the ceremony of renewal that it is a sacred ceremony that can affect one's life namely: Longevity; good luck and prosperity with moral principles, which is the principle of Kamma, three basses of meritorious action, and four holy abiding etc.,
