Editorials Representing the Voice of the Newspaper

Abstract

In a democratic society, newspaper enjoys freedom in expressing opinion fully. Editorial, a very subjective article, is a space for voicing stances on a particular issue of each newspaper. The author can express his/her opinion freely based on the ideologies of the profession and the accountability of the mass media. Editorial acts as a gatekeeper, an agenda setter, and a critique of the issue to offer a diverse dimension of the issue to readers. The author employs powerful writing techniques to arouse opinion and emotion of readers to persuasive contents. Therefore, they must be supported by credible sources. Editorials that used to be an article placed inside a newspaper has increased its power when being moved to the front page, referred to as Page One Comment. With the characteristics of expressing strong opinions in a straight forward and timely manner, editorial has maintained its role as the voice of newspaper until today.

บทบรรณาธิการตัวแทนเสียงของหนังสือพิมพ์

ในสังคมประชาธิปไตยสื่อหนังสือพิมพ์มีสิทธิและเสรีภาพในการแสดงความคิดเห็นได้อย่างเต็มที่ จึงเกิดพื้นที่เฉพาะสำหรับการแสดงทัศนะของหนังสือพิมพ์ต่อเรื่องใดเรื่องหนึ่งในสังคมที่เรียกว่า บทบรรณาธิการ ซึ่งมีลักษณะเด่น คือ ความคิดเห็นที่นำเสนอจะบ่งบอกถึงนโยบายและจุดยืนของหนังสือพิมพ์ทั้งฉบับอย่างชัดเจน เพราะมีลักษณะเป็นอัตตวิสัยซึ่งผู้เขียนสามารถแสดงความคิดเห็นได้อย่างอิสระภายใต้ความรับผิดชอบของกฎหมายและจริยธรรมทางวิชาชีพ ทั้งนี้ บทบรรณาธิการสามารถแสดงบทบาทการกลั่นกรองข่าวสาร กำหนดวาระข่าวสาร รายงานและอธิบายเหตุการณ์จนผู้อ่านเกิดความกระจ่างชัดเนื่องจากผู้เขียนต้องวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลอย่างรอบคอบ อ้างอิงข้อมูลที่น่าเชื่อถือ ด้วยลีลาการเขียนที่มีพลังจนสามารถกระตุ้นความคิดและอารมณ์ของผู้อ่าน เทคนิคที่ทำให้บทบรรณาธิการมีพลังยิ่งขึ้นในฐานะตัวแทนเสียงของหนังสือพิมพ์ทั้งฉบับ คือ การย้ายตำแหน่งจากหน้าประจำมาไว้ในหน้าหนึ่งแทนในชื่อ หมายเหตุหน้าหนึ่งหรือ Page One Comment เพื่อเน้นย้ำว่าสถานการณ์ของเรื่องอยู่ในภาวะวิกฤตและสำคัญต่อสังคม เมื่อพิจารณาถึงข้อเท็จจริงที่ว่าบทบรรณาธิการใช้ถ้อยคำที่หนักแน่นในการนำเสนอความคิดเห็น และเสริมด้วยจังหวะเวลาการนำเสนอที่เหมาะสม จึงทำให้บทบรรณาธิการยังคงความเป็นตัวแทนเสียงของหนังสือพิมพ์ต่อไป
