MANUSCRIPT PREPARATION
General Format and Language
Manuscripts submitted to the Asian Journal of Applied Economics (AJAE) may be written in English or Thai. Authors are required to prepare manuscripts using Microsoft Word.
Official manuscript templates can be downloaded below:
• AJAE Manuscript Template (English)
• AJAE Manuscript Template (Thai)
To enhance readability, professional appearance, and consistency with international academic journals, manuscripts should be formatted according to the following font and layout specifications:
- Font:
- Thai text: Cordia New, 14 pt
- English components (extended English abstract, tables, figures, and references): Times New Roman, 12 pt
- English manuscripts: Times New Roman, 12 pt
- Thai manuscripts:
- Page size: A4
- Margins:
- Left and right: 1.25 inches (3.17 cm)
- Top and bottom: 1 inch (2.54 cm)
Wider left and right margins are required to improve line length and reading comfort, as the journal uses a single-column layout.
- Line spacing: 1.5
- Page numbers: Bottom center
The recommended length for both Research Articles and Review Articles is approximately 6,000–10,000 words, in accordance with the journal’s scope and article types.
Section Headings
Major section headings (e.g., 1. Introduction, 2. Methods and Data, 3. Results) should be centered, bold, and numbered consecutively using Arabic numerals. Subsections should be left-aligned and numbered accordingly (e.g., 2.1, 2.2).
Title Page
The first page of the manuscript should include:
- Full title of the article
- Full names of all authors
- Institutional affiliations (affiliations should include the department, institution, city, postal code, and country)
- ORCID iD for all authors (where available), listed below their affiliations
- Name, full postal addresses, and email addresses of all authors
Please note: The list and order of authors cannot be modified after submission.
Abstract and Keywords
All manuscripts submitted to the Asian Journal of Applied Economics (AJAE) must include an English abstract.
English-Language Manuscripts
Manuscripts written in English must include an English abstract of 250–300 words. The abstract should clearly and concisely present the research objectives, analytical approach, key findings, and policy relevance of the study. Consistent with the journal’s aims and scope, the abstract should emphasize the study’s contribution to applied economics, its relevance to real-world economic issues, and its implications for policy analysis or economic decision-making, particularly in the context of Asia and related economies.
Thai-Language Manuscripts
For manuscripts written in Thai, authors are required to provide one abstract only, in the form of an extended abstract in English of approximately 800 words. A separate Thai abstract or short English abstract is not required.
The extended English abstract must be fully consistent with the main Thai manuscript in terms of content, objectives, methods, results, and conclusions, and should not introduce new analyses or interpretations beyond those presented in the manuscript. Its purpose is to communicate the full substance and policy relevance of the study to an international readership.
The extended English abstract should clearly elaborate on:
- The background and motivation of the study;
- The research questions or hypotheses;
- The data sources and methodological approach;
- The key findings and interpretations; and
- The policy implications or applied relevance of the results.
Authors should also provide 3–5 keywords and 3–5 JEL classification codes that accurately reflect the manuscript’s content.
Manuscript Structure
The manuscript should generally follow this order: 1. Introduction, 2. Literature Review (where applicable), 3. Conceptual Framework (where applicable), 4. Methods and Data, 5. Results, 6. Discussion, 7. Conclusions and Policy Implications (mandatory), 8. Acknowledgements (where applicable), 9. References, and 10. Appendices (where applicable).
Note on Policy Implications: Given AJAE’s focus on applied research, authors must provide a clear discussion of the policy implications derived from their findings. This section should translate empirical results into practical recommendations for policymakers, stakeholders, or practitioners in the relevant field.
Abbreviations and Acronyms
Abbreviations and acronyms should be used sparingly. When first introduced, the full term should be provided, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. Widely recognized acronyms (e.g., ASEAN, FAO, UNDP) do not require expansion.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should be embedded within the text near their first citation and not placed at the end of the manuscript.
- Font: Times New Roman, 10–11 pt
- Table titles and figure captions should be concise and informative
- Data sources must be clearly cited
- Tables should use horizontal lines only (no vertical lines)
- Figures must be clear and legible
Authors are required to submit original graph files (e.g., Excel) when applicable.
For Thai-language manuscripts, all tables, figures, and figure captions must be presented in English.
Illustrations
Photographs and images should be submitted separately in JPEG format with high resolution. Captions and credits must be provided. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish copyrighted materials and must acknowledge such permissions in the captions.
Mathematical Notation and Equations
Equations should be prepared using Equation Tools or MathType. Fonts and symbols should be clear and consistent with the main text. Equations should be numbered consecutively where referenced.
Acknowledgements (if applicable)
Acknowledgements should be concise and not exceed 50 words.
References
All manuscripts must strictly adhere to the APA Style (7th Edition) for both in-text citations and the reference list. For Thai-language manuscripts, all references must be translated, cited, and listed in English only, followed by the suffix "(in Thai)". Below are examples of reference formats for various source types. Please ensure all references are accurate and consistent with the formatting shown below.
