THE EFFECTS OF ANALYTICAL READING SKILL DEVELOPMENT OF MATTHAYOMSUKSA 5 STUDENTS USING CONCEPT-ORIENTED READING INSTRUCTION AND GRAPHIC ORGANIZER

Abstract

This research aimed to: 1) develop lesson plans for analytical reading utilizing Concept-oriented reading instruction combined with graphic organizers for Matthayomsuksa 5 students, 2) compare the analytical reading skills of students before and after implementing instructions using Concept-oriented reading instruction and graphic organizers, and 3) investigate the students’ satisfaction towards Concept-oriented reading instruction combined with graphic organizers. The sample group used in this research consisted of 39 Matthayomsuksa 5 students in the first semester of the 2023 academic year, selected through simple random sampling using classroom as the sampling units. The research tools include: 1) lesson plans on analytical reading, 2) analytical reading skills assessment test, and 3) student satisfaction questionnaire regarding Concept-oriented instruction combined with graphic organizers to enhance analytical reading skills. Statistical analysis methods included mean, standard deviation, and paired sample t-test.

          The findings of this study indicated that: 1) the development of lesson plans for analytical reading, utilizing Concept-oriented reading instruction with graphic organizer for Mattayomsuksa 5 students, obtained an effectiveness index (E.I.) of 0.5466, which was equal to 54.66% higher than the preset criterion of 0.5. 2) The students’ analytical reading skills were higher after implementing Concept-oriented reading instruction combined with the use of graphic organizer at the statistical significance level of .05, and 3) the students’ satisfaction towards learning using Concept-oriented reading instruction combined with graphic organizer was at a high level.
