The drama play “Suwannasam Chadok”

Abstract

In the drama “Suwannasam Chadok”, the researcher aims to study the process of organizing the play, focusing on the filial affection of the story, and the creation of the play itself. The method used for the study includes reviewing information from literature, books, Phra Tri Pidok, Buddhist folklore and Buddha’s history from Tu Lai Rod nam. The information gathered is used to arrange the drama play “Suwannasam Chadok”.

The research reveals that “Suwannasam Chadok” is about one of the last 10 past lives, the third past life, of Buddha, with gratefulness toward parents as the key virtue. Suwannasam Dabos is a prior incarnation of Buddha who takes great care his blind parents. In the drama play “Suwannasam Chadok”, the researcher has created the script using the theme from Phra Suwannasam story book written by Naowarat Pongpaiboon. The play is divided into 7 acts. 11 actors and actresses are selected based on the characters in the play. 7 pieces of music and 5 soundtracks are composed. Costumes are designed based on Naowarat Pongpaiboon’s Phra Suwannasam story book and Tu Lai Rod nam book. Make ups utilized natural-look theme. Stage is designed to match the story. The created drama play “Suwannasam Chadok” inspires the feeling of gratefulness toward one’s parents in the audience and can be adapted for the creation of other plays in the future.
