The Role of School Administrators in Enhancing Teachers’ Quality of Work Life
Main Article Content
Abstract
This academic article aims to synthesize the roles of school administrators in enhancing teachers’ quality of life using documentary analysis, relevant research, and Thai educational legal frameworks. The synthesis reveals that teachers’ quality of life is a multidimensional concept encompassing workload and time, physical and psychological well-being, organizational relationships, professional growth and development, fairness and recognition, as well as the meaning, value, and success derived from work. Teachers’ quality of life, therefore, is not merely an individual matter of teachers alone, but rather an outcome of administrative systems, working environments, organizational culture, and leadership of school administrators. The article proposes that school administrators should perform their duties as “designers of teachers’ working ecosystem” through five key roles: equitable management of workload and time, creation of a safe psychosocial environment, empowerment and professional development of teachers, participatory management and commitment building, and creation of a sustainable happy organization. The proposal of the article indicates that enhancing teachers’ quality of life should be established as a key strategy of school administration, rather than just an occasional morale-boosting activity, because teachers with a good quality of life naturally possess motivation, happiness, organizational commitment, and the ability to perform work to sustainably develop student learning and school quality.
