The Expected Potential of Startup Businesses Driven by Entrepreneurial Capabilities, Government Trust, Potential Customers, and Resources Support

Abstract

          The research aimed (1) To study the levels of perception of entrepreneurs regarding entrepreneurial capabilities, government trust, potential customers, resources support, competencies, and self-control, as well as the level of expected potential in the conduct of a startup business. The researcher also (2) frames a causal model showing the effects of the expected potential in the conduct of a startup business. The sample population consisted of 430 entrepreneurs of small- and medium-sized enterprises in Bangkok Metropolis expecting to operate a startup business in the future.

          Findings showed that (1). The perceptions of entrepreneurs were at a high level in all aspects. These aspects were entrepreneurial capabilities; potential customers for the startup business; resources support; entrepreneurial competencies; the self-control of entrepreneurs; and the expected potential for the conduct of a startup business with the values at 3.694, 3.780, 3.516, 3.905, 3.779, and 3.650, respectively. The aspect of government trust showed perception at the moderate level of 3.323.

(2) In regard to the causal model analysis showing the effects of expected potential in the conduct of a startup business, it was found that the factor of resources support exhibited total influence at the highest level of 1.768. This factor was the resources support extended by public agencies concerned with the conduct of startup businesses: the law, rules, or regulations; and technology infrastructure related to startup businesses, as well as financial support. Next in descending order was the factor of entrepreneurial capabilities which exhibited a total influence of 0.870. The factor of potential customers displayed a total influence of 0.306.
