Abstract

The objectives of the research were to study the effects of work attitudes, work procedures, and organizational leadership on performance effectiveness of Suvarnabhumi airport personnel, including direct effects and indirect effects with strategic management as a mediating factor. Samples in the research were a total of 240 employees of Suvarnabhumi airport personnel who worked under their supervisors. The samples obtained by using stratified sampling and systematic random sampling. The data were analyzed and processed by using the Least Square Path Structural Equation.

Research findings were as follows:  (1) work attitudes, particularly  safety and security as well as customer service attitudes, had a positive direct effect on performance effectiveness of Suvarnabhumi airport personnel; (2) work procedures in terms of decentralization and collaboration had a positive direct  effect on performance effectiveness of Suvarnabhumi airport personnel; (3) organizational leadership, including engage and charismatic leadership, also had a positive direct effect on performance effectiveness of Suvarnabhumi airport personnel; and (4) work attitudes, work procedures, and organizational leadership had a positive direct effect on performance effectiveness, and had a positive indirect effect on performance effectiveness through strategic management as well. Moreover, work attitudes had the highest overall influence on performance effectiveness.  As a result, Suvarnabhumi airport should evaluate personnel characteristics, with the emphasis on individual’s skills, behavior, motivation and attitude. In addition, organization should introduce work procedures that promote collaboration among personnel, decentralize downward to front-line operators, reduce rules, regulations, and unnecessary work processes as well as allow operators to  have an opportunity to express emerging ideas that are beneficial to the organization. Executive selection process should emphasize distinguished characteristics of employee engagement enhancement, the ability to perceive change and be able to adapt and respond to behavior and needs of their subordinates. Lastly, human resource development should be continuously promoted in order to leverage performance effectiveness of Suvarnabhumi airport personnel.
