The Transition of Competency-Based Cabin Crew Training and Assessment Program

Abstract

        The objectives of this research were 1) to study the transition of competency-based Cabin Crew training and assessment program and 2) to provide the guidance in transitioning from traditional to competency-based Cabin Crew training and assessment program. This qualitative research study involved in-depth interviews with the experts who involved in Competency-Based Training and Assessment. The research revealed that 1) there are six areas of comparison which are Training content, Training hours, Trainers, Media and equipment, Training facilities, and Assessment. 2) the guidance in transitioning to Competency-Based Cabin Crew Training and Assessment begins with senior management understanding the benefits of Competency-Based Training and Assessment and supporting the development of personnel, media, equipment, and resources. The training department then studies the requirements and guidelines for Competency-Based Cabin Crew Training and Assessment, which includes
1) Separating content Training on identifying and responding to trafficking in persons from aviation security training topics. 2) Determining the training duration to cover the content. 3) Training cabin crew instructors on guidelines for Competency-Based Cabin Crew Training and Assessment. 4) Developing media and equipment to be up-to-date and representative of actual equipment used in operations. 5) Arranging the training facilities according to government regulations. 6) Defining clear Competency-Based assessment guidelines and creating assessment documentation. Finally, the airline operator must continuously monitor and evaluate the training program to improve and develop it for maximum effectiveness.
