The Role of Mr. Chuan Leekpai as Speaker of the National Assembly during the Year 2019-2023

Abstract

This article has the objectives 1) the political role of Mr. Chuan Leekpai as the President of the National Assembly during 2019-2023, 2) problems and obstacles of Mr. Chuan Leekpai's political role as the President of the National Assembly during 2019-2023, and 3) appropriate approaches to solving problems and obstacles in performing Mr. Chuan Leekpai's political role as the President of the National Assembly during 2019-2023. The research method is qualitative research. The key informants are the President of the National Assembly, 1 representative of the House of Representatives, 1 representative of the Senate, 2 academics with experience in politics and the parliamentary system, and 4 members of the parliamentary secretariat, totaling 9 people. The in-depth interviews were conducted using semi-structured questions using content analysis

The research results found that 1) Mr. Chuan Leekpai is a charismatic and reliable leader who is capable of strictly enforcing the law and controlling parliamentary meetings to maintain peace and order, emphasizing effective conflict resolution and building cooperation among members. 2) Political differences in Thai society have resulted in ongoing conflicts in parliamentary meetings. The interpretation and enforcement of laws are complex, and controlling members of parliament is difficult. 3) Mr. Chuan's role should be adjusted to be appropriate for the current political situation by creating cooperation among political parties and controlling meetings efficiently, while setting new and appropriate regulations and creating effective communication channels with the public to increase transparency and allow the public to participate in political decision-making.
