Abstract
The main purpose of this research was to study and examine about the role and the contribution of the teacher Haji Abdurrahman Bin Ahmad Pombing who was a prominent person in contributing his services to Muslims among Malay society in Pattani in the mid 20th century. In order to achieve this purpose, the interview and the library research were developed and utilized as means of data collection. In the primary study, the researcher interviewed about 18 people consisting of the teacher Haji Abdurrahman’s family, his students and scholars during his time. In addition, the researcher also examined through documentary analysis and presented in critically. The results of the study indicated that the inclusive name of the teacher Pombing was the teacher Haji Abdurrahman Bin Ahmad, born on Monday, July 10th in 1929, in the village of Pombing, Panariq, Pattani. As for his role and his contribution in building knowledge culture at Pattani was through the four figures. First, it was built through Muassasah Ma’had Assaqafah Al-Islamiah School Pombing whether in the school itself and the surrounding area. The second was writing the papers through Pattani school organization. The third was through Pattani Ulama council such as answering about Islam, creating a peace building among society and spreading the teaching of Islam. Then the last one was through the association with the Thai language name “Thamma Charit”. In this figure, his role was as a lecturer in each of the three southern Thai mosque including Chanak, Songkhla.
