Using wisdom knowledge in dakwah to Allah

Abstract

This documentary research aims to examine the application of wisdom (al-hikmah) in Islamic da‘wah (inviting others to Allah) within a multicultural social context. The study employs a method of collecting and reviewing relevant primary, secondary, and tertiary sources, followed by descriptive and historical analysis in accordance with the research objectives. The findings reveal that al- hikmah refers to the appropriateness and correctness of speech and action, comprising key elements such as knowledge, gentleness, and deliberation without haste. A da‘iyah who possesses wisdom must have sound knowledge of Allah and His commandments, demonstrate patience, gentleness, and prudence, and remain committed to the principle of justice. Wisdom is regarded as a divine favor granted by Allah, which those engaged in da‘wah must continuously seek through supplication. The model of da‘wah practiced by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), particularly during the pre-Hijrah period, exemplifies the application of wisdom through gentle admonition, rational engagement, and the avoidance of violence. The findings of this study may serve as a guideline for da‘wah practitioners in promoting peace, mutual understanding, and social harmony within multicultural societies.
