Abstract
The purpose of this study was in order to study conditions of algebra instruction in patterns and relationships of elementary math teachers. The research samples were the sixth-graded math teachers from Bangkok Metropolitan schools. The researcher determined size of the sample using stratified random sampling techniques. There were 133 math teachers as tools of the research. Tools that used in the research were questionnaires, teaching observation and interview from teachers and students. Data were analyzed by calculating the frequency, averaging, percentage of standard deviation. Data were analyzed from teaching observation and interview by gathering a consensus on key issues. The results are as followed:
1) Teaching method: First, teachers used questions to encourage students and allow them to think of the teaching of patterns and relationships in order to allow students to encourage it. Then planned to use teaching method that appropriated for teaching patterns and relationships by using the induction. 2) Using media and resources: Teachers used documents and job knowledge in order to engage the teaching of patterns and relationships. Then researched more knowledge and teaching techniques of teaching patterns and relationships from books, media, and other sources in order to use them together with teaching technique. Using interesting media would stimulate their curiosity. 3) Measurement and evaluation: There were Measurements and evaluations in teaching of pattern and relationships from students’ exercises. The evaluation during class was from answering questions and presentations, observed and analyzed and solved problems of students individually.
