The Factors Affecting Khim Trilling Skill

Abstract

The researcher intended to investigate the factors affecting the trilling, skill on Khim (Thai dulcimer), by used the qualitative research methodology through interviews. The researcher collected the descriptive data with three key informants selected with purposive sampling method. These consisted of the experts of Thai dulcimer instructor; Nithi Srisawang, and Chinese dulcimer instructor; Chen Senwei. that aimed to question the perception of how players used Khim sticks to succeed the trilling skills with both hands control. Likewise, the expert, Samphan Songsuwankit, who crafted Khim sticks provided the information regarding the size, weight, lenght, flexibility of Khim sticks. The results showed that seven internal factors had affected the ability of trilling by his/herself players which divided into three main aspects for the skill of both-hand control includind weight and timing control, wrists, fingers, and arms control and height of both hands control.Four main aspects of how to use the Khim stick include the correct position and the precision of gesture, controlling the touching surface and controlling maximum height of the string. There were two external factors including the distance between players and Khim and choosing the appropriate khim sticks for the potential of his/herself players.
