Abstract

The participatory action research was aimed to 1) study the state of research–based learning model to develop cognitive skills, 2) to design and develop the research–based learning model, 3) study learning outcomes, and 4) evaluation of the model.    The research process included 2 stages. Stages1: Research Problem development was undertaken to explore fundamental information for research-based learning model. Stages 2: Action Research was conducted through 3 steps, namely planning which was a step of research-based learning construction, action and observation which was a step of model implementation, and reflection which was a step of implementation analysis of recommendation. Participants included 60 students who are studying in the second year of English Program. Research data were collected by means of focus group, observation, group interview, mind mapping, test, after action review. The statistics used percentage, mean, standard deviation and one-sample t-test.  The research finding were as follows: 1. The state of research-based learning model as a whole of the practical level is in the high level (M = 3.46, S.D. = 0.61) and the successful level is in the high level (M = 3.49, S.D. = 0.65). Considering in skill to develop desirable Bachelor skill (the third skill : cognitive skills). The practical level is in the highest level (M = 3.84, S.D. = 0.74) and the successful level is in the high level (M = 3.14, S.D. = 0.67).    2. The Research – Based Learning model to development cognitive skills has 4 components: (1) Question (2) Plan (3) Action and Reflection and (4) Conclusion and Presentation. The model has the appropriateness in the most level (M = 3.50, S.D. = 0.52)  3. Results showed that students had higher score on knowledge and cognitive skills; when compare with standard score was significantly different at the 0.01 level (p<0.01) The student’s satisfaction towards studying using Research – Based Learning model to development cognitive skills was a high level (M = 3.56, S.D. = 0.40)
