Transgender woman (Bisexual) and creating identity for urban society acceptance

Abstract

              This research has a purpose to study about identity creation of transgender woman (Bisexual) for the acceptance of urban society. This is a qualitative research. The researcher collected information in field work by using an observation and an in-depth interview from ten key-informants who disclosed themselves as transgender women (Bisexual). The researcher analyzed and interpreted the data based on the conceptual framework of sex identity and sexuality concept. The research result showed that the identity creation of transgender woman (Bisexual) for the acceptance of urban society was divided to be two types; 1) at the individual level where identity and behavior in daily life that were not accepted by family members, community and society, resulting in transgender woman (Bisexual) to show identity and definition of self-identity through, for example, dressing, manner and gesture, and language in various activities to express method of thinking, feeling, and behavioral expression, and 2) at the similar social network where there is a conglomeration in order to perform social activities, for instance, an establishment of a group, club or association to perform social activities under every possible relationship dimension, say, cultural, community, social, and daily life dimension. These effort was used as a mean of talking, consulting, and experience exchanging including various types of help until it became a large gathering towards identity creation for the acceptance of society.
