Sustainable Supply Chain Management in Industrial Businesses in the Eastern Region

This study aims to: 1) examine the key factors influencing the implementation of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) in industrial businesses within the Eastern region of Thailand, 2) explore the processes and strategies employed by these businesses in developing and managing sustainable supply chains, and 3) assess the impact of SSCM on operational efficiency and competitive capability in the industrial sector. This research adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing focus group discussions with individuals possessing substantial expertise in supply chain management, as well as those who can provide valuable insights into the research topic. The sample consisted of 10 participants, including executives from private sector companies, government agencies, and academic organizations.
The findings of the study reveal that: 1) various factors significantly influence the development of sustainable supply chains, with environmental considerations being the most critical, 2) the selection of sustainable suppliers is a prevalent practice adopted by businesses in the region to ensure the development and management of sustainable supply chains, and 3) when evaluating the impact of SSCM on operational efficiency and competitiveness, the creation of consumer trust is identified as the most influential factor. This trust is seen as essential not only for enhancing corporate reputation but also for fostering the long-term sustainability of supply chain operations, ultimately strengthening the competitive position of industrial businesses in the region.
This research underscores the importance of integrating sustainability into supply chain management and highlights the role of environmental factors, supplier collaboration, and consumer trust in enhancing both operational efficiency and competitive capability within the industrial sector of the Eastern region.
