A Study of Needs Assessment for the Development of Elementary Student Teachers

Abstract
The objective of this research was to study the needs assessment for the development of elementary student teachers. The study employed a survey method to investigate the developmental needs of student teachers majoring in elementary education. The sample consisted of 70 participants, including 5 educational scholars, 5 lecturers in elementary education programs, 5 elementary school principals, 5 elementary teachers, and 50 student teachers in elementary education. The research instrument was a needs assessment questionnaire focusing on five key aspects: (1) professional readiness for becoming quality elementary school teachers, (2) instructional management, (3) production and development of instructional media and technology, (4) student assessment and evaluation, and (5) factors influencing the quality of elementary student teachers. The data were analyzed using percentage, mean (M), standard deviation (SD), and content analysis.
The results revealed that the highest need for development was in the area of instructional management (M = 4.85, SD = 0.36), followed by the production and application of instructional media and technology (M = 4.79, SD = 0.40), assessment and evaluation (M = 4.75, SD = 0.43), professional preparation (M = 4.71, SD = 0.46), and lastly, supporting factors for enhancing the quality of student teachers (M = 4.67, SD = 0.47), which was found to be the lowest in priority.
