Abstract

This research aimed to: 1) investigate the trends, directions, and needs for curriculum development of a Doctor of Communication Arts in Future Leadership Communication Innovation; 2) develop the curriculum; and 3) evaluate and certify the curriculum quality by experts. A mixed-methods research design was employed across three phases. For the quantitative phase, the sample consisted of 450 supervisors and employees from government, private, and state enterprise organizations in Bangkok, selected through multi-stage sampling. A five-point Likert scale questionnaire with a reliability coefficient of 0.86 was used as the instrument, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. For the qualitative phase, data were collected from 15 key informants through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic content analysis. The curriculum was subsequently developed by a seven-member expert committee, integrating research findings with the Thai Qualifications Framework (TQF), the university's strategic goals, and the 20-Year National Economic and Social Development Plan. The curriculum quality was then evaluated and certified by seven distinguished experts.

The findings revealed that respondents most strongly agreed that leadership and strategic communication are inseparable in modern organizations (M = 4.81). The need for curriculum development was rated at the highest level (M = 4.69), and leadership communication was identified as the most critical trend for the next 5–10 years (91.33%). The developed curriculum comprises 48 credit hours over three years, encompassing foundation courses, required courses, elective courses, and a doctoral dissertation, delivered through a hybrid learning model. The curriculum philosophy centers on producing doctoral graduates who are innovative communicators equipped with strategic leadership, ethical consciousness, and the capacity to drive sustainable societal advancement. Expert evaluators confirmed that the curriculum is appropriate, internationally aligned, and comprehensively responsive to societal demands.
