Abstract

This research aimed to: 1) study the current and desirable conditions of curriculum management and social innovation skills; 2) develop curriculum management strategies based on the concept of social innovation skills; and 3) evaluate the developed strategies at Guilin Tourism University, China. A multiphase mixed methods design was employed. The population consisted of 1,500 students who participated in summer social practice activities, with a sample of 316 students selected via Yamane's formula and simple random sampling. Instruments included questionnaires, evaluation forms, and focus group discussion forms. Quantitative data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations, while qualitative data underwent content analysis.

The findings revealed that current conditions of curriculum management and social innovation skills were at a moderate level, whereas desirable conditions were at a high level. Priority weaknesses included curriculum evaluation mechanisms, curriculum goal design, and the cultivation of creativity and dealing with ambiguity skills. The developed strategies comprised 1) Transform Curriculum Evaluation to Develop Students' Social Innovation Skills; 2) Redesign Curriculum Goals to Develop Students' Social Innovation Skills; and 3) Optimize Curriculum Process to Develop Students' Social Innovation Skills. These strategies were evaluated as highly suitable and feasible for implementation. The study provides a systematic framework for integrating social innovation skills into curriculum management, addressing the urgent need for practical education reform and innovation-driven talent cultivation in local application-oriented universities. The findings offer actionable insights for administrators and policymakers seeking to bridge the gap between current practices and desired educational outcomes, thereby contributing to sustainable institutional improvement and regionally aligned talent development.
