The Study of Translation of French Circumstantial Subordinate Clause by Google Translate

Abstract
The purpose of this research is to study the process and results of the translation by Google translate of circumstantial subordinate clauses from French to Thai. The corpus consists of 347 sentences taken from 13 books of French grammar, in which the subordinate clauses express time, cause, opposition, condition, goal and manner. The result revealed that 58.79% of clauses are largely translated into Thai with the addition of introductory words or prepositions, and 41.21% are translated without these words. Google translate recurrently fails to correctly translate the clauses from the source language. The clauses translated into Thai without introductory words or prepositions often come from the literal translation.
