Myanmar Migrant Workers Situation in Nakhon Pathom Province: Problems and Coexistence in the Community

Abstract

This article is a part of a research project on Myanmar migrant workers situation in Nakhon Pathom Province: Problems and coexistence. The objectives of this study are: 1) To study the policy, practice and discourse of the Thai state to Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand and development and movement on the political, economic, social and cultural dimensions of migrant workers in Thai society; 2) To study the situation of migrant workers and problems in Nakhon Pathom province. 3) To propose guidance on migrant workers management for building the better society. The results showed that the main problems were the large number of illegal migrant workers in Nakhon Pathom Province that affected the right to receive welfares and protection. Besides there were a number of migrants working in Sex-business related. In addition, living in crowded communities and the prejudice of Thai community members were another important issue for coexistence living.
