Roles of academic advisors which affect learning behavior of veterinary students at Khon Kaen University

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the roles of academic advisors and learning behavior, to study the relationship between the roles of academic advisors and the learning behavior of veterinary students and to analyze the effect of academic advisors on student learning behavior of veterinary students at Khon Kaen University. 334 questionnaires, Academic Roles and Learning Behavior, were collected from the 1st – 6th year veterinary students, Khon Kaen University in the academic year 2009. The sample was divided into 2 groups. Group 1 included quantitative data from the 1st – 3rd year students. Group 2 included quantitative data from the 4th – 6th year students. Data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive analysis factors such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson’s correlation coef cient and multiple regression model. The research conclusions are: 1)ThelevelofacademicadvisorroleandlearningbehaviorofveterinarystudentsatKhonKaenUniversityof the 1st – 3rd year veterinary students was at a good level and the 4th – 6th year veterinary students was at an average level. 2) The relationship between the academic advisors and the veterinary students at Khon Kaen University of 1st – 3rd years were statistically different (p<0.01) at an average level (ranking from high to low: nancial, adaptation, intellectual development and academic topics). Correlations for the 4th – 6th year veterinary students were statistically different (p<0.01) on average (ranking from high to low: academic, role of training and professional ethics topics). 3) The factor that could be used to predict the roles of academic advisors and the learning behaviors of veterinary students at Khon Kaen University of the 1st – 3rd year veterinary students was nance. The percentage accounting for the prediction was 14.40. The predicting factor for the 4th – 6th year veterinary student was academic concerns. The percentage accounting for the prediction was 17.70.
