Policy and guidelines related to commercial navigation regulations on the Mekong river: a case study of Yunnan province (Thai)

Abstract



This study aimed to 1) Study the policy related to commercial navigation on the Mekong River in
Yunnan province and 2) Study the guidelines and regulations of Yunnan province as a measurement of control
in commercial navigation. The findings of this research can be summarized as follows. 1) The policy related
to commercial navigation on the Mekong River in Yunnan province importantly contributes to development 
strategies for inland navigation by quad alliance members namely, China, Myanmar, Laos and Thailand. With
a strong momentum for the development of cargo and passenger transportation, it results in extensive need for international transportation. 2) With regard to the commercial navigation guidelines and regulations of Yunnan province, it is found that the Transportation Department of Yunnan plays a great role in the control and
administration of commercial navigation on Lancang-Mekong River. In addition, regional administrative organizations are responsible for the assessment of crew performance according to the rules and regulations for the safety of inland navigation on Lancang-Mekong River.
