Abstract

The leaf anatomy of Erythroxylum coca Lam. was studied by scraping, clearing and taking transverse section. The leaf anatomy of the species is characterized by prismatic crystals occurring in the smaller cells of both upper and lower epidermis, twin cells of papillae appearing close together in surface view, numerous paracytic stomata on the lower epidermis, and scattering of the prismatic crystals and idioblasts along vascular bundles. The crystals occurring in single or from three to six smaller cells on both sides of epidermis are noted here for the first time.
