Abstract

A research study on the preferred types of tourist accommodation in the southern part of the North Eastern region of Thailand has been conducted. This was a subjective study in the 5 provinces of Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani based on a population divided into 2 groups, tourist accommodation owners and their guests both Thai and foreign staying in that accommodation. The study found that there were a total of 140 tourist accommodation establishments, with 9,780 rooms, within Muang Districts of the 5 provinces. In 2004, there were 2,980,752 guests who stayed in tourist accommodations out of 5,701,300 possible. Furthermore, the preferred types of tourist accommodation among the guests were health-based accommodation, home stay or long stay, bed and breakfast, and raft house in that order.
