Abstract

The purposes of this study were to develop the Cooperative-Based Instruction (CBI) Model for the Higher Education Social Science Courses and to examine the model's effectiveness. This research was carried out survey research, documentary study, expert panel, action research and quasi-experimental research. The findings indicated that the CBI model, composed of seven steps: preparation, class presentation, group activities, progressive test, group remedy, progressive scoring, and group recognition. There were also four techniques of group activities: learning together-STAD, jigsaw, expert group, and group project, which produced significant effects upon students' learning achievement at 0.05(P> 0.05) and other characteristics, such as, group responsibility, self-direct learning, leadership, teamwork skill, self awareness and value.
