Abstract

The purposes of this study were to determine the rate of following traffic regulations of Khon Kaen University students, including patterns of riding motorcycle, wearing helmets and the experiences about road accident. One-stage cluster sampling method was used as the selection of respondents, sample size is 736. Results showed that the rate of following traffic regulations of Khon Kaen University students was 4 % (95%CI was between 1.2 and 6.8 %, design effect = 2.5). The median of regular speech was 45 km per hour (min; max = 30; 80). The percentage of students who had the helmet was 88.2. The percentage of students who always wore the helmet was 12.4, while riding in campus (1-5 km) (95%CI was between 7.2 and 20.3 %, design effect = 3.9). There was 33.2 % of students who never ride the motorcycle through the red light sign (95%CI was between 25.7 and 38.9 %, design effect = 2.4), 60.9 % of students revealed the signal light before turning (95%CI was between 52.3 and 61.6 %, design effect = 4.8). Furthermore, there was 32 % of students who were experienced the road accident in campus, median was 1 time (min; max = 1; 4), of these students there was 81.9 % riding a motorcycle and 83.2 % did not wear the helmet while experiencing the road accidents.
