Analysis of Children’s English translation of the Buddhist vocabulary in the “Journey to the west”

Abstract

“Journey to the West” is one of the four classic works in China, with a lot of Buddhist vocabularies in the text. This article takes the children's English version of “Journey to the West” as the research object. Firstly, it explains the research significance, methods and theory of this article. Secondly, it summarizes the classification of Buddhist vocabularies and the translation methods adopted. Under the guidance of German Skopos Translation Theory , Adopted several translation methods such as Sanskrit phonetic translation, free translation and omission. At last, it puts forward some problems in the translation of Buddhist vocabulary. On this basis, it also puts forward some views that no matter what kind of translation skills are used, children's ability to understand and read should always be taken as the purpose in order to achieve the ultimate goal.
