Abstract

Alpinia nigra (Gaertn.) Burtt is a native plant of Koh kret, Nonthaburi. It growns in areas with plentiful water and this plant is in the family as ginger and galangal. The purpose of the research was to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Alpinia nigra (Gaertn.) Burtt extract and developed in niosome delivery system to be used as a serum formula for acne skin. The extraction was performed using hexane, The antibacterial activity test were conducted using Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes). The disc diffusion method was found effects of antibacterial with a clear zone diameter in range of 0.5 to 1.2 centimeters. The broth dilution method was able to inhibit of P. acnes and S. aureus with MIC values of 6.25 mg/ml and 3.13 mg/ml. Antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 0.1±0.15 mg/ml. Total phenolic compound content at a concentration of 100 mg/ml. The total amount of phenolic compounds was 89.777 mg. equivalent of gallic acid per gram of extract. The flavonoid content of Alpia nigra (Gaertn.) Burtt extract at a concentration of 100 mg/ml was analyzed. It was found that the total flavonoid content was 85.25±0.002 milligrams quercetin equivalent per gram of extract. The extract was Encapsulated by using different surfactants including span 40, span 60 and span 80. The results showed that span 60 has ability to encapsulate an active ingredients more than span 40 and span 80. Therefore, niosome form Alpinia nigra (Gaertn.) Burtt extract was developed into a facial serum for acne skin. After applying the serum on the skin, it did not feel sticky and suitable for all skin type and has a pH balance for facial skin.
