Abstract

Zakat management in Thailand continues to face challenges in efficiency, transparency, and information accessibility. This study aims to develop and evaluate a prototype of a comprehensive online zakat platform to improve management effectiveness and enable future nationwide scalability. The research employs the Design Science Research (DSR) methodology, consisting of six stages: problem identification, objective definition, system design and development as a web application with donation-based crowdfunding, demonstration, evaluation, and dissemination. The proposed innovation integrates a zakat calculation system based on international standards, a QR code payment system, and a targeted zakat recipient database (ZRMAP) featuring data visualization. A pilot implementation was conducted in collaboration with three foundations in Yala Province. Data were collected through interviews, behavioral observations, and reflective records from zakat payers, recipients, and participating organizations. Results indicate that the platform successfully mobilized 201,440.89 THB from 160 donors and distributed zakat to 231 beneficiaries. Users reported improved convenience and ease of use, particularly in zakat calculation and online welfare applications. Suggestions for improvement included enhancing the user interface by consolidating information into a single page and adding English language support. The study concludes that the platform has strong potential to enhance transparency through open data, reduce redundancy in zakat distribution, and promote long-term self-reliance among zakat recipients.
