Abstract
This article aims to study the role of the government sector and guidelines for promoting Phrapariyattidhamma Schools, General Education Division, which are educational institutions under the Sangha responsible for providing both Buddhist doctrinal education and general academic education concurrently. The purpose is to develop monks and novices to possess balanced knowledge, abilities, and moral qualities in accordance with Buddhist principles, enabling them to propagate Buddhism sustainably. Moreover, Buddhist followers are encouraged to provide more active patronage and support for monastic education. This is in accordance with the Phrapariyattidhamma Education Act B.E. 2562 (2019), which emphasizes the cultivation of desirable characteristics among learners to become well-developed individuals in body, speech, and mind, as well as virtuous heirs of Buddhism and qualified human resources for the nation. The government plays a crucial role in policy formulation, budget allocation, curriculum development, educational administration, and the creation of equitable and inclusive learning opportunities. In addition, the government’s support aims to strengthen Phrapariyattidhamma Schools as centers for moral and ethical cultivation, fostering learning based on Buddhist principles that help underprivileged youths gain quality education while alleviating the state’s responsibility for basic education provision. Furthermore, government policies aligned with the 20-Year National Strategy emphasize the integrated development of education, religion, culture, and morality to nurture citizens of virtue and quality. Therefore, the promotion of Phrapariyattidhamma Schools, General Education Division, constitutes a vital mission of the government in developing religious heirs, promoting ethics and morality, preserving Buddhism sustainably, and advancing the nation toward prosperity with good quality of life and sustainable well-being for all citizens.
