This research article aimed to 1) study the problems of people to help police work in Sawi District, Chumphon Province; and 2) suggest guidelines for people to help police work in Sawi District, Chumphon Province. It is a qualitative research. There were 17 informants. An in-depth interview was used.
The problems of prevention and suppression affected police operation. It was found that people lacked of confidence in the police, and that it lacked of personnel in charge of prevention and suppression. The problems of investigation affected police operation. It was found that people were worried of their own safety in case of providing information to police officers, and scare of police failure to keep information provided confidential. It was also found that investigation still lacked supporting devices like CCTVs to detect offenders, along with no understanding of evidences required for investigation. The problems of inquiry affected police operation. It was found that most people were worried of their own safety in case they acted as witnesses for police officers. They were also scared that offenders would acknowledge their notification to the police. It was also found that people still did not understand of crime scene prevention, resulting in errors. For guidelines to help the police in prevention and suppression, it was found that there should be knowledge transfer for people to help police work. A Line group should be created for exploitation and for facilitating people to provide information to police officers in case of incidents. There should be PR to create confidence and faith from people toward the police in order to be confident to help police work. CCTVs should be installed to be useful for the police in prevention and suppression. For guidelines to help the police in investigation, it was found that there should be trainings and knowledge transfer of investigation for people. A Line group should be created to facilitate people to provide information to police officers in case of crimes. CCTVs should be installed inclusively in the areas. For guidelines to help the police in inquiry, it was found that there should be training and knowledge transfer for understanding of inquiry, for acting as witnesses so that officers in charge can arrest and take offenders to punishment, and for preventing/keeping crime scenes before police officers or officers in charge approach the scenes.
