Career Development of Prisoners at Ranong Provincial Prison for Their Survival After Being Freed

Abstract
The objectives of the research aimed to 1) study inmate needs toward career development of inmates at Ranong Prison for their survival after release, and 2) provide suggestions of career development of inmates at Ranong Prison for their survival after release. This is a qualitative research, with 17 key informants. In-depth interview was used. An interview form was used as the research instrument.
The findings revealed that there were 4 aspects of inmate needs toward career development, including., (1) hairstylists, (2) tilers, (3) chefs, and (4) agriculture. Inmates needed career development in all 4 aspects, because these were self-employed jobs with low investment. They were also highly required in the labor market. They needed to be transferred knowledge and trained by professional as well as experienced guest speakers for further professionalism and can developed as sustainable jobs so that they can support themselves and their families after release. For suggestions of career development of inmates in all 4 aspects, specialized and professional personnel should be employed. There should also be new techniques for vocational trainings to enhance professionalism of inmates. With efficiency development, inmates will have major careers after release and can support themselves and their families, without future recidivism/recommitting offenses.
