Model for the Development of Rattanakosin Rajabhat University Group in the 21st Century To Become a Green University that is Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable

Abstract

              The research on “Model for the Development of Rattanakosin Rajabhat University Group in the 21^st Century to Become a Green University that is Environmentally Friendly and Sustainable” has objectives to: 1) study the components of green university that is environmentally friendly and sustainable, 2) discover guidelines for the development of Rattanakosin Rajabhat University Group in the 21^st century to become a green university that is environmentally friendly and sustainable, and 3) come up with the model for the development of Rattanakosin Rajabhat University Group to become a green university. This is a qualitative research that uses documentary research pertaining to the green university, the in-depth interview with 20 key-informants who are administrators, academicians, academic support personnel, and students, and a focus group undertaken with 8 individuals that include administrators, academicians, academic support personnel, and students. The obtaining data are analyzed by using PEST typological and content analysis SWOT analysis and TOWS Matrix and verified by using triangulation method. The results revealed that 1) the components of a green university include (1) setting and infrastructure, (2) energy and climate change, (3) waste disposal, (4) water management, (5) transportation, and (6) education, 2) the guidelines for the development of a green university are (1) setting and infrastructure that include the proportion of open space, (2) energy and climate change that include the utilization of energy saving devices, (3) waste management that includes the recycling, (4) water management that includes the consumption, control, storage, and management, (5) transportation that is environmentally friendly, and (6) education that includes number of available subjects relating to environmental issues, and 3) the model for the development of Rattanakosin Rajabhat University Group to become green university by using SSS Model that comprises of 1) strategic planning that emphasizes personnel, money, management, materials, and morality, 2) setting goals that include objectives, timeline, and outcomes, and 3) solutions that deal with prioritization, auditing, and big data setting. Roadmap to master plan outlines the shot-term plan that includes existing conditions assessment, intermediate plan involves setting a vision, metrics, actions, and long-term plan that specifies implementation, follow-up, and evaluation. The Rajabhat University has an opportunity to create culture that is sustainable environmentally friendly for the students who will become valuable human resources of the country with an expectation of a decent global environment in the future.
