The inspiration for creating contemporary prints comes from the characteristics and meaning of Yangjiabu New Year wood-block prints.
Abstract
This study aims to study the historical origin, cultural, and ecological attributes of Yangjiabu New Year wood-block prints, analyze the artistic characteristics of Yangjiabu New Year wood-block prints, and extract the representative symbol language. Explore the innovative design of traditional New Year pictures in the contemporary context, and explore the significance and necessity of the contemporary value transformation of Yangjiabu New Year woodblock prints. This investigation has two steps as below:
The first part is to analyze the literature. The researchers will carry out the work in three steps. First of all, using the theories related to cultural ecology and intangible
cultural heritage, this paper analyzes the natural environment, cultural environment and social environment of Yangjiabu New Year wood-block prints, as well as the values conveyed by the traditional New Year prints. Secondly, various New Year picture data will be collected from New Year picture museums and published publications. Finally, using the theory of semiotics and creative aesthetics, this paper analyzes New Year pictures' artistic characteristics and meaning from the collected data.
The second part is artistic creation. Through the analysis results of the last part, the artistic modeling features of traditional New Year pictures are summarized and refined, and combined with the spirit of The Times and modern aesthetics, New Year pictures in the new era are created. Finally, the creation and exhibition of the works reinterpret the value and symbolic meaning of the art of New Era New Year pictures.
This study will obtain a new knowledge system of the visual art language of Yangjiabu New Year woodblock prints. It has obtained the intervention and integrated expression form of Yangjiabu traditional New Year wood-block prints in contemporary printmaking art creation, providing a reference method for artistic creation.
