Influence of Quality of Work Life, Job Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment on Employee Retention at Showrooms and Car Service Centers in the Northeast

Abstract

The purpose of the study were 1) to study the level of employee’s working life quality, job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and their retention at showrooms and car service centers in the Northeast, and 2) to study the influence of working life quality, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment on employee retention at showrooms and car service centers in the Northeast, Thailand. Questionnaires were used as a tool to collect data from 500 employees of showrooms and car service centers. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics of frequency, percentage, mean standard deviation, and inferential statistics of structural equation model was used to analyze the research hypotheses.


The study revealed two findings. Firstly, Northeastern car showroom and service center staff have moderate level of quality of working life in terms of working environment and atmosphere, affective commitment, normative commitment, and retention of employees; high level of work satisfaction and the highest level of quality of work life in aspect of work life and work balance. Secondly, the most fit indices in the proposed structural equation model were at acceptable levels. That is, quality of working life in the environment and working atmosphere had a direct influence on affective commitment, normative commitment, and retention by 0.873, 0.939 and 1.163 respectively; quality of work life in the balance of life and work had a direct influence on job satisfaction by 0.432; job satisfaction has a direct influence on normative commitment by 0.079; normative commitment has a direct influence on retention by 0.333.
