Abstract

     The objective of the study to study Rice narratives as a green narratives and green memories of community in the Central Mekong Basin. The researchers employed the following methodologies including; Ecological literary concepts and social memory concepts as the main tools for analysis. The results of the study founded that the people in the Central Mekong Basin are considered to be community of cultural pluralism. In particular, the area is full of green narratives and leads to the creation of green memories. The important narrative was Rice narratives that showed the area was filled with a variety of rice species and those narratives finally become an important tool in fighting and negotiating with groups that monopolized power in their society. And the Rice narratives were changed into other ways to presentations to suit the context of modern society as well. In conclusion, Rice narratives also have been made into sacred narratives that signify the creation of a positive relationship between human and nature. Which will leads the people to creating an eco-consciousness in their community.
