Abstract

The research aimed to study the history of the Royal Anthem and  specific musical characteristics. of military bands The research instruments were an interview and an analysis theory. The research findings were as follows:

1. the current edition of the Royal Anthem has been used since 1871 to pay respect and salute His Majesty the King. The anthem was composed by Usen.   In 1888, it was edited by Pyotr Schurovsky. The lyrics were edited by  Her Royal Highness The Prince of Phraya Narisara Nuwattiwong.  The royal anthem was inspired by a foreign visit by King Rama V who wanted to see the country and culture to imitate some aspects of foreign culture;


2. concerning some characteristics of the music bands of the Royal Army, it was found that  the sound rhythm often jumps in the duet.  Attention was focused on the framework of the classical music.  That resulted in smooth melody,  pleasant sound harmony to create a sound balance. Musical instruments were arranged  with the aim to make them prominent by using the octave.  Priority was also given to the harmony to enhance the unique identity of the anthem.  As a result, the Royal Anthem feature smooth, pleasant rhythm, which was in line with the composition theory of the Western Music.
