The Development of English Language Skills Using Present Simple Tense Writing Worksheets: A Case Study of 1st and 2nd Year Students, Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University

Abstract

The purposes of the study were to 1) develop English language
learning proficiency and compare the writing skill achievement obtained
before and after using present simple tense writing worksheets and 2) to find
the satisfaction level of students towards the writing worksheets. The subjects
in the study comprised 43 students: 12 males and 21 females from the Faculty
of Business Administration and Management at Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat
University (UBRU), Ubon Ratchathani, during the second semester of the
academic year 2013. The selection of subjects was conducted by using the
purposive sampling technique. The experiment duration was 6 times. The
study instruments employed were six writing worksheets, the 4-choice quiz
achievement test formulated by the researcher was composed of 30 items,
and the questionnaires aiming to extract and retrieve general demographic
information, and satisfaction survey of practicing by using the present simple
tense writing worksheets. The results of the questionnaires were collected as
significant data. The data were analyzed by percentage, mean, standard
deviation and t-test. The students’ achievement after using the present simple
tense writing worksheets was statistically higher than that before using them
at .05 level of significance, and the students’ satisfaction indicated on the
writing worksheets was at good level (= 4.29).
